Description:
Small, a highly variable swallow with a black deeply forked tail. Rufous-orange neck sides and rump, finely streaked buffish-white underparts, and black undertail coverts. From Barn in having rufous-orange sides of neck, rufous-orange rump, finely streaked buffish-white underparts, and black undertail-coverts.
Distribution:
Common summer visitor to lowers valleys in central Gilgit-Baltistan, mainly Diamer and Gilgit. Prefers open hilly country, lightly wooded areas, rocky gorges and cliffs; also open scrub, cultivations and paddy fields. Locally reaching up to 2500m.
Behavior:
Forages usually alone, in pairs or in small groups; mixes with other hirundines. Feeds both low over vegetation and high up; flight slow, with frequent gliding and soaring. Patrols cliff face or other feeding route. Adult diet includes flies, beetles, bugs, termites, Orthopterans and Hymenoptera.
